Biography

Arman Mahdieh was born in Isfahan, Iran on September 23, 2000. He started playing music, with Saeid Ghorbani, at the age of eight with the traditional Iranian musical instrument, Santoor. After two years, he had his first performance in music councils and in 2012, he entered the music school and began academic music studies.
In 2013, he studied for the professional courses of contemporary musicianship and traditional music under supervision of Ardavan Kamkar. In addition, he completed the courses of “Radif” music and the knowledge of traditional Iranian music, he participated in Majid Kiani’s courses.
In 2014, he entered the music conservatory to continue his academic studies, and at the same time, he got acquainted with the basics of composition, harmony, music theory, music history, etc.
He performed duets and ensembles on the stage, some of which included his first composing experiences, in which he was present as a
Santoor player and composer.
In September 2014, in the 8th Youth Music Festival (the most prestigious music festival in Iran), he won the first place for playing Santoor. In the following years, he won the first place in different festivals in Iran: Khorram Festival (December 2014, 2015, and 2016), Parnian Mezrab Festival (September 2016), and etc.
In these years, he conducted researches in the area of improvisation in Iranian music, mainly on the instruments of the old improvisational masters of Iranian music, and consequently, he won the first place for improvisation at the music festival of Master Jalil Shahnaz.
In 2018, he participated in the section of “Formation in Solo” in the National Youth Music Festival and won the first place. At the end of the festival, in Vahdat Hall of Tehran, he had a Santoor solo performance as the selected participant. This event was a turning point for further pursuit in the field of composition.
At the age of eighteen, Arman completed and recorded his first official album, named “Infinite Parallels”, with his own music and composition. In 2022, the album was officially released in Canada by Canadian International Music Publication (CIMP) and in Iran by himself. The album was received the Barbad statue in the International Music Festival of Fajr and was awarded as the best silent music album of the year.
In 2017, with the formation of “Hooran Trio”, he started composing based on Iranian folk music, which has been published in the form of music videos, singles and albums.
Continuing his composition studies, he studied harmony with Mohsen Elhamian and Ali Tavakkoli and the basics of composition in the Reza Vali’s workshops. Meanwhile, he created works of contemporary music and various non-Iranian genres and experimentalism in this field.
As a Santoor musician, Arman has collaborated with artists such as: Sohrab Pournazari, Tahmoores Pournazari, Amir Jadidi, Javad Ezzati, Tannaz Tabatabaei, etc., in the concert of “Sisad” (Summer 2022, Saadabad Palace, Tehran). He also participated in different concerts of national orchestra as a soloist. In 2019, he entered the Department of Art and Architecture of Guilan University and started researches on various styles of traditional music from the past 150 years to the present day.
Arman has held Santoor training classes for several years which it results in many young students as well as different workshops on Iranian music, music theory, improvisation, etc. in cities such as Tehran(pournazeri academy) ,Isfahan, Shahre kord, Rasht, etc.
